Kane Farabaugh is an Emmy® award-winning multi-skilled journalist, documentary filmmaker, and writer. He is a proficient "one-man band" video producer and non-linear editor, managing multiple projects across broadcast, digital, and social media platforms.
In an award-winning career spanning several decades, Farabaugh covered the 9/11 attacks, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, U.S. elections, and the Olympics, among numerous other important historic news making events. He has interviewed world leaders including Polish President Lech Wałęsa and U.S. President George W. Bush, and his 2019 interview with former President Jimmy Carter was nominated for an Emmy.
His career began as an active-duty U.S. Air Force military broadcaster in Korea and Japan. He went on to work as an anchor, reporter, and host in TV newsrooms across the country — Rockford, IL; Tampa, FL; Bakersfield, CA; Charleston, WV; and Syracuse, NY — and later served as the host of the Department of Veterans Affairs broadcast "The American Veteran."

Over a twenty-year period, Farabaugh extensively covered the life and legacy of former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter — including more than 100 original television, radio, web, digital, social media, and text reports on The Carter Center's work.
That coverage spanned efforts to eradicate Guinea worm disease and eliminate river blindness, peace programs including election-monitoring missions, and the Syria mapping project. More than 20 one-on-one interviews with President Carter produced a rich archive of original content that gave his international audience — over 300 million people in more than 40 languages — an ongoing window into Carter's storied life and the work of the Carter Center "waging peace, fighting disease, and building hope."
His 2019 interview with President Carter was nominated for an Emmy®, and his 2023 profile of his friendship with First Lady Rosalynn Carter received the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi award.
Reporting on the new space race
As VOA's Space Correspondent, Farabaugh provides dedicated coverage of NASA's Artemis program for a global audience, following the agency's return to the Moon and its next era of human spaceflight.
His reporting also reaches back to the beginning of the space race: Farabaugh has interviewed nearly all of the surviving astronauts who flew on NASA's Apollo missions to the Moon in the 1960s and 1970s, building a rare firsthand archive of the Apollo program told by the people who were there.

The Voice of America has had hundreds of correspondents over the decades. Kane probably won more awards than all the others combined. He is a rock-solid journalist who produced compelling stories for broadcast over many years. In a business with a lot of egos and sharp elbows, Kane has been one of the nice guys, always available to assist other colleagues and undertake the most challenging of assignments without complaint. Whomever he is working with will certainly appreciate his talent, experience and camaraderie.
Kane is one of the most ridiculously talented and energetic broadcasters I've ever had the pleasure of working with. His talent is truly remarkable, and his passion for producing top-quality work is unparalleled. Kane is an outstanding photo-journalist who frequently displays his multi-talented skill set. He is an excellent video shooter, writer and reporter with a keen eye for the details that make video stories stand out. Kane also does a superb job on-air, either live or in his stand ups, appearances that convey authority, comprehensive knowledge and a firm grasp of context. Kane is a hard-worker and very collegial as a team-player. For example, Kane did an outstanding story on the Iowa Caucus results in February where told the story of family members who supported different presidential candidates. In short, Kane would be an asset to any broadcast organization.

Through his personal enterprise in developing relationships with Carter Center staff and program experts, Mr. Farabaugh has provided Voice of America's international audience of more than 300 million people weekly with a volume of information not just about the life and legacy of President and Mrs. Carter, but also our important work around the globe “waging peace, fighting disease, and building hope.”
Kane is the consummate journalist. He is one of those rare individuals who is really knowledgeable about so many topics, but he combines it with an uncanny ability for storytelling. When I worked with Kane more than a decade ago, I was always impressed by how engaged with world affairs he was, and how thorough he was in doing his job. I have followed his career and seen his growth, he finds the most amazing way to stories that have been told many times over. So whether he is reporting on World War II or Star Wars (he can do both equally well), you will learn something you've never heard before.
Kane Farabaugh is one of the most passionate journalists I've ever worked with. His dedication and determination to find a story worth telling and then present it in a way that is compelling, accurate and fair has always impressed me. I'm writing this as an unsolicited endorsement of Kane Farabaugh, one of the most accomplished visual story-tellers I've ever encountered during my more than 45 years as a broadcast professional. His excellent journalistic standards, skilled videography, insightful reporting and uncompromising, creative television production values are consistently praised by management and audiences alike. As Program Director of American Forces Network Europe, I never hesitated to assign complex reporting projects to Mr. Farabaugh because of his rare ability to operate and produce, alone and under adverse conditions, in any country across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Kane was often referred to as our "one-man band" because of his multiple skills in filing TV, radio and print stories as well as providing still photography, video footage and interviews. His list of accomplishments is impressive and includes a very long list of national and regional awards for broadcast excellence. His talent as a broadcaster and producer is matched only by his considerable organizational skills as a crew or team leader and project manager. I have worked with many talented and dedicated broadcasters both in my various capacities at the American Forces Network-Europe and ABC Radio in the past 40 plus years but two people stand out, head and shoulders above the rest and one of them is Kane Farabaugh. When we hired from the commercial industry we were looking for someone who would help us raise the professional level of our product. Kane not only set that standard but launched a new series of full length features and documentaries. These were products for the most part which were researched, recorded, edited and produced by Kane and many of them were award winners. His lasting legacy is a four part history of AFN-Europe for a total of two hours. Kane tracked down AFN veterans throughout the US, found long lost archive footage, including an audio statement by General Eisenhower on the importance of AFN to the war effort. This documentary will always be the standard work on AFN Europe's history. It is Kane's keen sense for the visual that makes his work so good. Right down to the kind of font and the look of the graphics. He crafts his product like a work of art and the result is quite amazing.
Unquestionably, one of the most uniquely talented journalists I've had work for me. As a young Airman assigned to the American Forces Korea Network, it was obvious Kane Farabaugh's raw talent overshadowed even his more seasoned counterparts. Years later, with several commercial news markets and government positions under his belt, Farabaugh's talent is unmatched. From the war zone of Afghanistan to middle America, his stories are the most creative and informative available. His unparalleled talent for long form video earned the American Forces Network Europe its first Emmy nomination. Even in today's competitive and talented news market, I would challenge any news director who didn't immediately identify Farabaugh as an asset they could capitalize on.
Kane makes news important. Whether it's covering a snow storm, a court case or something bigger, he is top notch. He has drive beyond compare when it comes to landing the "big GET." Here is all you need to know: On 9-11 he gets in the car and goes to the Pennsylvania plane crash site and brings our LOCAL TV station first hand information. Then, immediately after 9-11, Kane set up a trip to Pakistan to bring a look at the very core of the Muslim world to our LOCAL viewers. NETWORKS were having a hard time doing this. Kane did it for a LOCAL TV station and it was thorough and enlightening and he won many awards for his efforts. He is the very definition of Journalist. I strongly recommend his work!
